Wearing Hijab is necessary

I found this ad in the newspaper a week or so ago, every day I say I will blog this and just don't get around to it. With all the hardship veiled women in Jordan face when looking for a job, for a company ( Sama Jordan) not only to be fair to valid women but make it mandatory is a breath of fresh air.

On this subject I have a lot to say. At the time I don't have much time on my hands but maybe some day I will write about this. For the time being I just would like to thank this company even if the don't know it.
All for now ....

Dear Tamara..I disagree with you.

Ok ,it's so far so good to see more veield women hired..but I think it's sort of dicrimination to mention both of them in ads. they should not mention veiled or non veiled women since it's part of personal freedom in both cases.

umm, i'm not sure if i should agree or disagree with this, but it's interesting.

Red Rose

I understand where you are coming from, all jobs should be equal right to the best person for the position, but common we have to see that this is nice for any one who has been denied a job due to the Vaile, I have never heard of an un-veiled lady being denied a job due to not wearing a hijab.

Mazz

I can see why people may have an issue with this, but as I have mentioned its gives a good feeling to any one who did go through the degrading experience of being judged by their religious choice.

Welcome to my corner mazz : )

ya its like: jordanee, w falasteenee back in the days, the Arab bank in the past used to hire only falasteenees as a reply to the all-jordanee departments, ofcourse it feels good, but its wrong :) wrong wrong wrong :)

I think we should be clear, if you agree with this advertisement, then you should agree with any company that "cracks down" on its female employees who wear Hijab and asks them to take it off or else they'll be fired,

same thing as any company that refuses to employ women wearing hijab.

First of all, I think it's sexist as it calls for a female, as opposed to a qualified person of either gender. Second of all, requesting that the candidate be one who wears the hijab is basically also saying that they won't hire non-muslim women...

High five for them ..simply because they have made the unusual their usual . I have heard of a number of girls how hard it was for them to find decent payment jobs in "reputable" places simply because of the hijab . Having a company supporting it even in its "dress code" is indeed something interesting and good.

First of all, welcome all of you who have visited my corner for the first time : ) mariam ayyash, Hareega and beti

All …

I know its not correct to deny any one employment or any other right based on their appearance or religious belief. That being said the situation in Jordan is that most reputable companies and not so reputable ones refuse to hire veiled women. No discussions!! I have seen myself professional women not being able to get a good job due to the fact that she is veiled. In these circumstances a company comes in and demands veiled women, you bet I will feel good about it and blog about them! because they are challenging a wrong thing that already exists.

I hope you try to see things from my point of view. and sorry if I have offended any one in the process

PS: I did not reply to each person separately so I don't have to repeat myself.

At least they were honest from the beginning! other wise it's so unhonourable. first u pass an interview over the phone, and when they see you are covering, they simply apologize for not hiring you! thanks tamara!

and of course there are institutions that do not hire women if they don't wear the veil, from small private businesses like small shops to larger ones like the Islamic hospital which actually requires that female workers wear the Jilbab nit just a headscarf.

What they're doing is correcting one mistake by doing another. In the end the woman is the victim because most of these rules are dictated by men who interfere with a very basic freedom for a woman.

Welcome to my corner : )

I see you know what I'm talking about !

Hareega

I don't disagree that its not completely right. but again please don't compare a few places to the majority.

Tamara: Very interesting ad. And I can clearly see you point of view. But i'm afraid i disagree, we can't correct one thing with a wrong. Companies discriminated against veiled women, and this one is discriminating against unveiled women, it's just the same. What they can do if they are concerned about how women look at work-which is really important- they can specify a dress code which all employees have to follow. But we cannot impose religious beliefs on others..don't you think?
Nice blog by the way ;)

An Oriental blog..

Glad you liked my blog, you are very welcome to my corner : )

We don't disagree, I feel its more of a re-action to the current situation rather than a correct stand point. That's it

is not that some kinda of discrimination?

hah!
oh my god ..i dunno when Arabs will figure that religion has nothing to do with business and work...dont tell me that wearing Hijab boosts productivity...or dressing down would improve worth ethics...lets judge ppl based on their qualifications

Arab Lady

On the contrary, people in Jordan seem to think that not weaning hijab will boost sales !! so seems in Jordan people mostly agree with you : )

arablady said something that used to make me wonder now it just cracks me of laughter: "i dunno when Arabs will figure that religion has nothing to do with business and work" hmm, well religion did have to do a lot for the past 1400, do u have any evidence that it doesnt have to do with it? see, european lady's dont wish to mix religion with work and life, european ladies are sold per hour half naked behind windows in Amsterdam!!! there are a lot of proofs that religion DOES indeed boost morals and create great minds, and i dont have to speak about the wanderful inventions and discoveries of our moslem ancestors, so next time u are convinced that "religion does not have to do with business", state ur evidence!
as for the AD again, putting hijab is really more of a personal choice, simply because non moslems dont have to wear it, now i can impose a dress code, and choose whomever i feel good for the job, but i cant make an AD stating: hey, only tea lovers will be hired... it will NOT create any problems i assure u, but it will definitely push away all qualified arms.
Tamara, great blog, i left my comment then lost the url :) i had to google to find my way back :)
